How A Septic Tank Works

A septic tank treats your sewage and wastewater from your property.  It has usually a large rectangular structure buried underground.

A septic tank is a completely passive system powered entirely by gravity. Sewage and wastewater flows into the tank at the inlet. Waste solids fall to the bottom of the tank and are slowly decomposed by bacteria and natural enzymes in the system. What’s left in the septic tank is usually a mix of sludge, wastewater and scum which rises to the top.

When new wastewater enters the tank, it displaces the water (Effluent) that's already there. This treated effluent drains from the tank’s outlet pipe, normally to a soakaway or percolation field.

Problems can occur when you get a build up of sludge stopping the flow into or out of the tank.

Call today and we can send out one of our friendly drivers and tanker to empty your septic tank.
